Civil Seminar –

Political Reform Experience in Hong Kong

Date: August 22nd, 2010

Time: 3 p.m.

Venue: AFA (Art for All Society) Macau, located at Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira, No. 45-49, 3 andar, Macau

In order to learn from the Hong Kong political reform experience, Macau Civil Power is holding its Civil Seminar titled “Political Reform Experience in Hong Kong”. The well-known Hong Kong political commentator, Mr. Ivan Choy Chi Keung will give a speech during the seminar.

The Hong Kong Legislative Council had approved the government's constitutional reform package under controversy. Nevertheless, the package is still seen as a paving stone for the general election in 2017 and 2010 in Hong Kong. In order to understand the experience of political reform in Hong Kong and its impacts on Macao, Macau Civil Power is inviting Mr. Ivan Choy Chi Keung to share the experience of political reform in Hong Kong. Mr. Choy is a senior instructor in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a well-known political commentator and he is also a member of the “Alliance for Universal Suffrage” in Hong Kong.

Universal Suffrage by means of the popular vote is a global tendency. Even though there are no concreted terms in the Macau Basic Law enforcing universal suffrage in our political system, surveys disclosed by different institutions has shown the increasing pros on political democracy among the Macau population. With the weak civic and democratic forces in Macau, what can we do and how can we start to promote political reform agenda in Macao? How can we drive our citizenship to participate? What kind of democratic development and political reform experience we can learn from Hong Kong?

Public are welcome to join us and for more information, please visit the official website of Civic Power at www.civic-power.org For RSVP, please contact us by phone at 28700169 before August 21st (Sat).
